Lately, i’ve honestly been in love with Astrid S and on Friday she released Paper Thin and I can’t not talk about it. You need to know absolutely everything Astrid S.
Astrid S is a 19 year old singer/songwriter from Norway and you 100% need her music in your life. I don’t care if you’re an Acid Jazz loyal, you need it. Astrid first gained attention when she competed in the Norwegian version of Pop Idol in 2013 and somehow came 5th and not 1st. (Norway wut the hell, but then again One Direction didn’t win X Factor and you could say they did somewhat decent). But that didn’t stop her from making music and she has since gained insane amounts of fame in Norway and has started to gain attention from countries far and wide. Despite never having released an EP and only putting out singles, Astrid has managed to gain millions and millions of streams on Spotify alone. Her live studio version of Paper Thin has ranked over 6 million hits and her cover of FourFiveSeconds over 3 million! And then there’s her work with fellow Norwegian and tropical house artist, Matoma.
The beautiful mesh of talents first came about when Matoma remixed Astrid’s magical single 2AM. From there they collaborated on one of the songs of 2015, Running out. She presented a guitar demo of the tune to Matoma and from there they created this wondrous anthem.
So now is the point where we come to talk about Astrid S’ latest release Paper Thin. A live studio version of the song with a lovely piano backing was released awhile back now and oh my god it will make you greet. It’s beautiful. But on Friday she released the official actual studio version. The song is taken from her debut EP which will be released on the 20th May! (OH MY GOODNESS THE EXCITEMENT) She has made the song bigger and better and it’s one of the best singles of the year so far! The song incorporates the sound Astrid is known for with a dark electronic pop style. This version might not make cry them rivers from the eyeballs but it most definitely will have you hooked. So if you get a chance make sure you listen to Paper Thin and all the rest of her beautiful music!
If you love Astrid S you can catch her live at The Great Escape in Brighton in May! For all those lucky people who’ve grabbed tickets you can catch her support Troye Sivan at the QMU in Glasgow on the 16th April (Also the rest of his UK Tour) But if you haven’t grabbed tickets you’re also in luck! You can come PARTAY at our Night Out and Record Store Day celebration at Nice N Sleazy on the same night. (So Astrid if you’re looking for somewhere to hang after your set, please come to Nice N Sleazy on Sauchiehall Street! We love you, we have some stellar acts and there will most definitely be alcohol involved.) Anyway I’ll leave now so you can listen to Paper Thin below and let you fall in love in peace. x
