Miles Kane opened his Coup De Grace tour in Glasgow’s Barrowlands on the 22nd of November. He started the day with an appearance in the Fred Perry store in Buchanan Galleries playing an intimate gig for keen fans who waited outside for hours before-hand. This was just the first of his visits to Fred Perry stores across the UK throughout his tour.
He is joined on his tour by the upcoming band Cabbage – which feels like a natural support. They eased the way in by playing some of their well-known classics with their unique sound and attitude shown through their music. They are a band with a lot of charisma, and it was evident that they are a well-liked support band with the Barras being packed for their set.
Miles Kane took to the stage with a change to his natural attire, with his face painted. He opened with ‘Loaded’ from his new album which was co-written by Lana Del Rey and has a poppy feel to it. The song has a catchy background beat to it, with some electric guitar riffs that went down well when played live. He then went on to play the classic ‘Inhaler’ from his first album which went down a treat with the rowdy crowd who were fast to start a mosh-pit. He then went on to do the live debut of his new song ‘LA Five Four (309)’ were his unique vocals are shown alongside a drumbeat before bursting right into the tune.
After playing some of his older songs he goes on to sing ‘Cry on My Guitar’ from his new album which has a funk feel to it with a synth-beat background. Kane’s energy when playing this song is undeniable with the crowd singing along to every word. When the title song of the new album ‘Coup De Grace’ was played there was a buzz around the venue as one of his stage props was flashing lights of the track title.
He then went on to sing some of his old tunes ‘Better Than That’ and ‘Colour of the Trap’ before playing some more of his new tracks. To finish the night, he did a cover of the Donna Summers version ‘Hot Stuff’ which gave a real reminisce of his set at TRNSMT during the summer when he played the song in 25-degree heat. He closed the gig with ‘Come Closer’ from his first album which ended the night on a high, with the crowd going wild. Miles Kane is a natural, talented musician who brings a lot of energy to his performances and really connects with his audience. He continues the rest of his tour across the UK over the next month, finishing in his hometown of Liverpool.
