Who to see at XpoNorth!

This week we’re jetting off to places once again! However, this week we aren’t venturing too far! We’re headed to Inverness for Scotland’s leading Creative Industries festival, XpoNorth. This free (YA FREE) festival showcases music, film, fashion and more from Scotland and beyond. Also attached to the festival is a convention which offers panels and a truckload of good advice. With so many good bands playing the festival we thought we would share the ones that we love and you HAVE to go see. (Mind its free, so why the feck no?)

Rebel Westerns

It’s no secret whatsoever how much we love Rebel Westerns and their music. In case you didn’t know, they are a 5 piece from pop band from Edinburgh, producing the catchiest tunes. (Seriously, their single Trouble is stuck in our heads at least 60% of the time). They recently played our Record Store Day Party and supported Lisbon at Sneaky Pete’s and we can safely say they are fantastic live band. They’ll be dancing, you’ll be dancing and it’ll be just goddamn fantastic! Catch tunes such as Nightdrive and Honey Bear and us politely raving in The Market Bar on Thursday (9th June) from 10:45pm.

The Van T’s

Performing at Hootananny’s at midnight on Thursday you can catch one our favourite Scottish bands and people, The Van T’s. They create grungy, magical, 90’s influenced music with lots and lots of reverb. It’s beautiful and possibly even more beautiful live. They’ll not only be performing their debut EP “Laguna Babe”, but their brand new, shiny EP “Coming of Age” ahead of its release on Friday! BE THERE.

Catholic Action

Catholic-Action-18 (1)

Catholic Action are yet another must see act at XpoNorth The band from Glasgow have received an extraordinary amount of backing from blogs and radio, including BBC introducing and BBC Radio 1. They write unapologetically catchy indie music and with tunes like L.U.V, they certainly have a promising future ahead of them. They are playing Mad Hatters on Wednesday at 00:30am. A late one but a good one.

November Lights

november

November Lights are performing at The Market Bar on Thursday at 9:45pm and you HAVE to be there. They are a 5-piece indie pop band from Glasgow and are definitely one to watch. Their single Bring You Home is a fantastic Mumford-and-Sons-sounding-but-better-than-Mumford-tbh kinda song. Their music appeals to everyone and are sure to put on an incredible, must see set.

Indigo Velvet

Yes, everyone’s favourite tropical af pop band from Edinburgh, Indigo Velvet are at XpoNorth. They are performing at 9pm at Blackfriars on Thursday! They’ll be cool hair, flowery shirts, possibly some camel and amazing summery tunes. What more could you possibly need?! You can’t miss this set.

Colonel Mustard and The Dijon 5

Closing the festival on Thursday at the Ironworks, is Scotland’s brightest and most entertaining export, Colonel Mustard and The Dijon 5. This is the greatest act imaginable to close this fantastic festival. Yellow everywhere, insane crowd involvement and top notch and sometimes hilarious songs, why on earth would you want to miss this?  They are a great live band and you’ll want nothing more than to be one of the Dijons.
