Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years you’ll know that every year, one lucky city in the UK gets the chance to hold “Radio 1’s Big Weekend”. So earlier this week it was announced that the lucky city was Exeter at Powderham Castle.

Now not a lot has been revealed about the festival as of yet, but Grimmy has given us a few teaser acts who will be performing. Some of them are biggies in the music world and the rest of the acts set to perform will be announced in the coming weeks! So we have:

  1. Coldplay

  2. ·Ellie Goulding

  3. Bring me the Horizon

  4. Chase & Status

  5. Craig David

Last year’s Big Weekend saw the headline acts of the Foo Fighters, Muse and Taylor Swift.  (I was jealous of Norwich at this point). Now if the main stage isn’t for you fear not there are tents, rides, food stalls and genuinely just people having a good time everywhere! If the likes of Ellie Goulding don’t tickle your fancy then I suggest going to the “BBC Radio 1 Introducing tent” if you’re into finding new, up and coming acts to get your hands on! On the other hand if you want to see new acts that have already started to make it big then I’d suggest going to the “In New Music We Trust Stage”

Now i went to the Big Weekend in 2014 and it was possibly one of my favourite music event that I’ve went to (as of yet). I got to see all of my favourite acts such as One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry,Coldplay, Bastille, Calvin Harris, Lily Allen and Clean Bandit! Well to be honest i was mainly there for One Direction and Katy Perry, but i came out of that weekend with a new found love acts that i didn’t necessarily like. For instance Clean Bandit, now i liked that one song they did with Jess Glynne, but seeing them live puts their whole act into a different perspective. You have all these young and talented people playing varying instruments  and it all meshes so well!

If you’re really not that interested in the acts that will be performing just remember that all you pay for this event is the £2.50 booking fee on tickets. So either way it’s a win-win situation. It’s essentially a free event, where you get to broaden your horizons on music, maybe find a new love for up and coming acts or even have your mind changed by a headline act. The possibilities are endless! And even if that doesn’t draw you in, just go for a good time with friends and get drunk! What’s the worst that could happen??

Now I know there isn’t a lot to go on about this event as of yet, but I can promise you that The Big Weekend is definitely a festival to go to, So if you’re in the area go, what’s the harm, you waste 2 days listening to some class music?? Now Radio 1 has said that all ticket information for this event will be announced on March 21st. In my experience they sell out really quickly so if you’re wanting a ticket get onto that website as soon as you possibly can to insure that you are defiantly going!

As it’s in Exeter all of us from Club Decode might not be able to make it, unfortunately! But if you see some acts that you think we might not have heard of or just one that you love in general send us a Tweet (@ClubDecode), tag us on Facebook(Club Decode), send us a Tumblr message or even an email(TheClubDecode@Gmail.com)! Because you never know, it might even become one of our new favourite acts that we then decide to review and it’ll all be thanks to you guys!

Thanks again for reading!
