Coming up this Saturday (11th March) at Glasgow’s Queen Margaret Union is QMU Live Fest. With music across 3 stages and some of Scotland’s best up and coming acts, it’s set to be an unmissable day.
Not long after headlining the esteemed King Tuts in Glasgow and releasing his latest single Couldn’t Want You More, Alternative act Ali Robertson takes to one of the QM Union’s stages this Saturday. Performing his piano fuelled pop music with raw vocals and pronounced talent. Those who have undeniable love for the darker side of pop and striking vocals are set to more than enjoy this Glasgow based singer.
An act making music on the opposite end of the scale and an act we are deeming unmissable is Quick. To be awestruck by this performance is more than likely. Their easy-going folk music intertwined with some of the best voices Scottish music has to offer, its guaranteed to be transfixing. The 3 piece recently released their EP which flows with a series of emotions, lighthearted instrumentals and songs such as Crazy Grace that showcase that alluring vocal. Do not be quick to dismiss this act because of their genre, this could be the best set you’ve seen yet!
Landing their QMU Live Fest slot after winning the QMU’s battle bands in November, is the newly infused Walt Disco. Since, they’ve gone on to headline King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, receive boundless rave reviews, secure support slots with the likes of Girli and turn numerous heads. Taking influence from Tame Impala, The Smiths and more, their genre is instilled with the best. Despite only having formed in September, they perform with an aged presence resulting in a bang on set. They play the festival in the midst of writing and recording new music which hopefully we will be able to hear soon.

Yet another act of a varied genre is Declan Welsh and The Decadent West. An act we have covered copious amount of times but quite rightly so. With music full of harsh, truthful lyrics and a political ferociousness. Not only does their music have lyrical force but the instrumentals and melodies have the same honest effect. Not only is the performance music based but poetry is also often thrown into the mix by front man Declan. Once again, an act we render as unmissable.
Another Glasgow band joining the line up is Other Humans. After recently releasing their EP Ruined Glitter, they are armed with a bold and magnifying set. The crowd can be prepared to be met with their fuzzy and eccentric tones. If alternative and rock infused music is your thing, then Other Humans are the highest recommendation.
The festival is brought to a close by joint headliners, Saint Phnx and Model Aeroplanes. Saint Phnx currently stand as one of the most exciting new bands to come out of Scotland and a perfect fit to headline QMU Live Fest. They bring a boisterous and infectious sound to the table. They have a safe sense of familiarity to their sound, allowing their set to appeal to those who aren’t in the know. Saint Phnx are definitely a band to look forward to.
A band that have been quiet for awhile but made have made their awaited return is Model Aeroplanes. Headlining the festival a year after their latest EP, Something Like Heaven, they are set to play new music and the music their fans fell for. Their guitar fuelled music is contagious and exudes a retro inspired feel. A band definitely capable of their slot, it’ll be exciting to see what the future will hold.
