Liverpool Sound City Breakdown

So Sound City is just around the corner (well a month but y’know we’re excited) and I thought I would give you wonderful people a short breakdown of the acts I’m looking forward to seeing.

So the festival weekend actually starts on the Friday, for those of us attending the networking day with some of the most important musicy people around. We will be there in near full force to in reality try and make friends with some pretty awesome people.

Anyway onto the festival, the shenanigans start on the Saturday, with Catfish and The Bottlemen as the headliners, Saturday is already shaping up to be an amazing day, Catfish have just finished a pretty much fully sold out run of the UK, with them now breaking into the American music market also, there is nothing stopping this band from getting world domination. Their new album is due to be released May 27th, the day before they headline Sound City, I’m hoping that it’s some sort of party to celebrate the release because hearing their new songs live would probably give me an out of body experience. With their two released singles already seeing massive success because they are without a doubt absolute tunes, everyone is in high anticipation for their long awaited album.

Check the guy’s out performing ‘Soundcheck’ on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Another absolutely amazing addition to Saturday’s line-up is Palma Violets, the band formed back in 2011 and gained a considerable fan following on-line, their first single ‘Best Of Friends’ also gained them considerable recognition with it winning NME’s song of the year back in 2012. The band are no strangers to playing festival sets, as they’ve now appeared at Reading and Leeds festival three years in a row and last year also saw them playing Glastonbury festival. So it is undoubted that I am more than a little bit excited to see them at Sound City this year.

Have a little watch of the guys performing ‘Best Of Friends’ at Reading 2013.

The last band I’m going to speak about from the Saturday line-up is Belgian band Castes, the band are kinda new and have now released their second album ‘Fiction Or Truth’. The band mix alternative and punk styles together to get a varied, high tempo and energetic sound. They are definitely going places and don’t forget guys you heard about them here first.

Check out their single Palm Reader

Onto Sunday and we have the myths, the legends, Circa Waves who I honestly can’t wait to see live, this band have such an upbeat, summer vibes sound and I can’t put into words my love for them. The band have only been going for around three years and they already have a substantial following, they’ve already broke into the American market and will be playing their home town of Liverpool on the Sunday alongside some other amazing acts. Last year was a phenomenal year for the band, with the release of their first studio album ‘Young Chasers’ the exposure of this album was something else, it gained them a secure foothold in the UK indie music scene. Along with this they played a heft UK summer festival circuit, including dates at Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds, so they are no strangers to putting on show stopping festival performances. If you haven’t jumped on the hype of this band, then I suggest you seriously should.

Give their single fossils a listen…

The last act that I’m gonna go on about are another great band from the Sunday line-up, you may know them, the go by the name of ‘The Dandy Warhols’, it’s fair to say this band have definitely been around a while, formed back in 1994 in Portland, Oregon. The band rose to fame and gained recognition when they signed to Capitol records back in 1997. To date the band have a hefty discography of ten studio albums and achieved global success when their song  Bohemian Like You gained them new levels of fame due to continued exposure and an appearance in an advert. I am definitely excited to see this band live as they are icons of the indie/grunge scene.

Bohemian Like You is here, give it a listen.

Other amazing bands also include Neon Waltz, Eliza and the Bear, White and Violet Skies.

Thank you for reading my little post.
