Gengahr @ Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow – 06/12/16

On Tuesday’s rather rainy evening, we ventured to Glasgow’s Nice N Sleazy to catch a set from London quartet, Gengahr. We caught them on the second last date of a packed UK headline tour, which means we could expect some new music very soon. Read about the gig below!

When going to see Gengahr, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a slight expectation but I entered the venue without really knowing what that was. I guess I was expecting something out of the ordinary and out there, kinda like their music. But quite the opposite happened. The band aren’t strange and eccentric like you may expect, they’re 4 typical guys whose love for music allows them to create weird and wonderful noise. The instrumentals may never sound unhinged but the lyrics are what pack a punch.

Their sound was almost mesmirising, each note and word was hung onto by the audience. The gig was upbeat and you would often find yourself swaying in time subconsciously. It wasn’t often lead singer, Felix needed to address the audience, they were all in his hands anyway. New songs were welcomed just as the old ones such as Fill My Gums With Blood, She’s A Witch and Bathed in Light were. Opening with an unheard number, the new songs sound promising and possibly the best of their material. I was completely won over by Gengahr and their addictive stage presence and sound. We can but wait in anticipation for what’s to come and hopefully it comes soon.
