Ahead of them playing a set our Glitter gig on the 22nd March, we spoke with Dale from Dundee duo Beta Waves. Read below as we talk how they came to be, their songwriting process and what they have in store for the future.

How did Beta Waves form and what influenced the name?

Dale: Me and Harry have known each other for a couple of years and I just asked him up to mine for a Jam one time cause I had some songs and he helped finished them off. Had no real intention of forming an official ‘band’ to be honest- it just happened. The name was created under sheer panic because I booked a gig and forgot we didn’t actually have a name.

How would you describe your sound?

Dale: It has influences from 80s pop with a modern psych twist I guess.

What is your typical songwriting process?

Dale: So far, I’ve written the basic song on the guitar then send it to Harry who will come in and smash it around a little and then ‘hey presto’ a track. But Harry has a few great ideas too for songs so the process is ever evolving.

What can people expect from your live performance?

Dale: Some daft dancing from Harry in between moments of panic when he’s trying to play all his parts… I have the easy job, sing and play guitar.

What’s in store for the next 6 months?

Dale: We will be releasing a couple more tracks and we have some really good gigs coming up but nothing we can say too much about just yet.

Quickfire! Who is your musical guilty pleasure?

Dale: Harry loves Kylie Minogue but he doesn’t feel guilty about it.

What is your most embarrassing moment on stage?

Dale: Thankfully nothing yet bar the odd bum note. But there are plenty gigs to come…

If you could have written any song ever, what would it be?

Dale: Merry Christmas everybody – Slade

Festival you are most looking forward to in 2018?

Dale: Seeing Tame Impala at the Citadel festival in London
